Games to Play When Bored in Class — Quiet & Fast

Short, silent and over before the lesson is. Games that load on a school laptop and do not announce themselves.

Being bored in a lesson is a specific problem with specific constraints, and most "games when bored" lists ignore all of them. You need something that loads in seconds on a slow shared connection, makes no noise, does not need an account, and can be abandoned mid-run without losing anything. That rules out most of the internet.

The rules this list is built on

  • Silent by default. None of these plays a sound until you ask it to. A browser will not let a page make noise before you interact with it, which for once is a feature.
  • Under a megabyte, mostly. The median download across the whole catalogue is 0.4 MB — measured in a real browser, not estimated. A photo off a phone is bigger.
  • No account, ever. Nothing here asks for an email. Close the tab and there is nothing to log out of.
  • A run is one to three minutes. Long enough to be a game, short enough to stop when somebody walks past.

If you want to think, not react

Tilt Sort is the best one on this list for a classroom. It is a ball sort puzzle where you tilt a beam and let physics do the sorting, so it is slow, quiet, entirely mouse-driven, and you can stop on any move. Arrow Escape is the same shape of calm: a grid of paper arrows, tap one to slide it out if its path is clear, and the difficulty is in reading two moves ahead rather than in doing anything fast.

Snap Route and Draw Current are one-puzzle-per-screen games you can finish in forty seconds. Neither needs sound and neither has a timer breathing on you.

If you want something moving

Snake Sprint is the one people stay on longest — the measured average session is 53 seconds, which for a free browser game is a long time. It is snake in 3D with other snakes in it, so there is judgement as well as reflex. Dash Run is the subway runner: three tracks, trains to jump, and a stumble you survive exactly once.

Both are touch-first, so they work the same on a phone under a desk as on the laptop in front of you.

Will these work on a school Chromebook?

Yes. They are built for integrated graphics rather than a dedicated card, which is what a Chromebook has, and there is nothing to install. Whether your particular filter lets the page through is its decision and not something any site can promise — but none of the usual reasons for blocking applies here: no download, no plugin, no account, no chat.

There is a fuller list on the Chromebook games shelf, sorted so the lightest are first, and the unblocked games page carries the measured download size for every game.
