Playing With Friends Without Anyone Installing AnythingPlay Transform Race

Getting a few people into the same game is usually the hard part. Someone has to install it. Someone else has to make an account. By the time everyone is ready, two of you have lost interest.

Browser games skip all of that. The game is a web page. If your friend can open a link, they can play.

How a room works

In Transform Race you pick Play With Friends, type any name you like, and make a room. You get a four character code back. Read it out or paste it in a chat. Everyone else types it in and they are in the lobby with you.

Nobody signs up. Nobody verifies an email. The code is the whole system and it stops existing when you are done.

  • A room fits four players.
  • Empty seats become computer racers, so two friends still get a full race.
  • The host starts the race. Everyone gets the same countdown.
  • Back To Room after a race puts everyone in the lobby again for a rematch.

Turn based games work over a link too

Not everything has to be live. Chess 3D and Ludo Legends both work fine with two people on one screen, passing the device or taking turns at a desk. That is still multiplayer and it needs even less setup.

It is also the easiest way to play with someone who is sitting next to you, which is a use case that gets forgotten a lot.

What to expect on a bad connection

Live racing sends small updates many times a second. On a slow or filtered connection the game does not break, it just gets a bit less smooth. Your own racer always responds straight away because it runs on your machine.

📶If the fast connection is not available the game quietly switches to a slower one and keeps going. You may notice other racers moving a little less smoothly. You will not get kicked out.

Games worth starting with

If you have a few minutes and a friend, these three are the quickest to get running.
