Racing
Drift a toy speedster around a sunny playground track.
A low-poly track you can learn in three laps and keep shaving seconds off for an hour. Real suspension, a handbrake that actually steps the back out, and a reset key for when the ramp puts you on the roof.
Free to play, no download, no sign-up. Hosted with โค by GamerX.
Poly Racer was created by the pmndrs collective and is used here under the MIT licence. Original project. GamerX hosts it; we did not write it.
W or the up arrow is the throttle, S or the down arrow brakes and then reverses, and A and D steer. That is enough to get round. The lap timer starts the moment you cross the line and keeps your best, so the loop is simply to drive it again and try to beat yourself. Space is the handbrake and it is the key that changes how the car feels: held into a corner it breaks the rear grip and lets you rotate the car instead of scrubbing speed off in a wide arc. The car has real suspension, which means weight moves around when you brake and turn at the same time, and getting a corner wrong usually means you asked it to do both at once. R puts you back on the track upright if you end up somewhere awkward, and C cycles the camera between chase, bumper and a wider view.
Poly Racer is the demo racing game built by the pmndrs collective, the group behind react-three-fiber - the library that lets people build three.js scenes with React components. It exists as a showcase: a real, playable game rather than a spinning cube, put together to prove the stack could carry one. That is why the driving holds up better than the presentation suggests. The car runs on a proper raycast vehicle model with independent suspension at each wheel, so weight transfer under braking and cornering is simulated rather than faked, and the handbrake works because the physics underneath it lets the rear wheels lose grip. The track is deliberately small and readable, low-poly in the literal sense that it is built from few enough triangles to stay smooth on modest hardware. The project is MIT licensed and the full source is on GitHub, where it is widely used as a reference for anyone wiring physics into a React three.js app.
The same low-poly toy look and the same idea that a track can be a playground rather than a circuit. Poly Racer is the gentler one: real suspension under the car, no lap timer chasing you, and no track editor. If you came for time trials and leaderboards, PolyTrack is the one you want; if you came to drift a toy car around in the sun, this is.
PolyTrackis someone elseโs game and not affiliated with GamerX. It is named here because it is the clearest way to describe what Poly Racer is.
