Not every game that calls itself a "runner" is actually endless, and the distinction matters more than it sounds like it should. A true endless runner never lets up: the speed climbs forever, and the only question is how long you last before it wins. A finish-line runner is a different kind of tense, a fixed course you are trying to clear clean. Both belong in the same conversation, so here is where each of the arcade's runners actually falls.
True endless: no finish line, ever
- Cave Runner is the straightest version of the format: a dark tunnel, a character who never stops, and a speed curve with no ceiling.
- Sliding Wave and Dash Run both take the same "outrun the inevitable" premise and build a distinct world and obstacle rhythm around it: the first is one button on a neon grid, hold to climb and let go to dive, and the second is three subway tracks where a low hurdle means jump and a bar on tall posts means roll.
Finish-line runners: a real course to clear
These have a defined end, but no less pressure getting there: a single clean hit usually ends the run just as fast as any endless game's rising speed does.
- Treadmill Dash is the closest thing to a pure reflex test in this group: jump, slide, switch lanes, and the belt only gets faster.
- Crowd Rush adds a growing-or-shrinking crowd on top of the usual dodge-and-weave, so the finish line is not just about your own survival anymore.
- Rush Freight, Cube Rush 3D, Ooze Overload, and Sky Convoy are all stack-runners: something grows behind you (a crate tower, a cube stack, a flock) as you dash a curving track toward a real finish.
